RIVALS is a photographic series about football, identity and the culture surrounding football’s most deeply rooted rivalries.
The derby is more than a game. It is something passed down; through families, friendships, stories and rituals. Different colours can become part of who we are, sometimes long before we are old enough to understand why. What starts as a rivalry can become a way of connecting generations.
At the same time, football has changed. A culture once deeply rooted in local communities is increasingly shaped by branding, global audiences and commercial interests.
RIVALS looks at the tension between these two sides: football as something that can be bought and sold, and football as something that still feels deeply personal.
The series was photographed on 120mm Kodak Portra and brings together two sides of the same place, shortly before another derby.
